If you follow my blog, you know I’m a huge fan of buying in bulk to quickly build your food storage to maximize your food for a minimum of money. However, not everyone has that as an option. Some folks only have a small amount each week to devote to their food storage.
Spurred on by a recent Facebook post about how to build your food storage using $5 a week and processed foods, I decided to make a similar list for $10 a week and the real foodie, updated to today’s food costs. The idea here is to dedicate $10 a week above and beyond your grocery budget, and set the food aside to be the basis of your family’s food storage program.
This method of building a food storage plan is the low-and-slow method. However, it’s perfect for those on a tight budget who can’t free up more funds in their budget to do something quicker.
If you have any money left over each week, put it back in your envelope so it is available on the weeks that you go a little over $10. These prices are based on my resources, so your prices will likely vary. Having that little extra put back as a cushion can keep it from impacting your grocery budget.
I will do several variations on this theme, including multiple diets such as real food, GFCF real food, paleo and the like. Today we’ll look at a general real food diet. Check back next Thursday for a $10 a week list for a different diet.

NOTE: If you have funds left over at the end of the exercise, I would purchase more meat. And, of course, if you find a good sale on any of these items, go ahead and swap two of the weeks, to take advantage of the extra savings. In fact, I would encourage you to print the whole list and just mark off one of the 52 weeks at a time, based off of what is on sale that week. That will maximize your savings and the amount of food you can get for your money.

1- One refill pouch of Real Salt
2- 3-4 cans of full-fat coconut milk
3- 4-6 pounds of dry beans of your choice
4- 4 or so pounds of a high quality sucanat
5- 2-3 bags of steel-cut oats
